- chris: the early years
- I am first son of Daniel van Benthuysen
and Kathleen Moon. Born in Glen Cove, New York, I have had permanent residence in
East Northport, New York, for the most recent 19 years of my 21 year old life. My
only brother, Peter, is four and half years my junior and is currently finishing up
his junior year at Northport High
School, the same high school I graduated from in June of 1996. I have since
enrolled (and nearly completed my four years) at Washington University in St. Louis (three time
reigning Women's Division III Basketball National Champions).
- chris: college life
- I am currently an RA
(Resident Advisor) for the 2nd floor of Lee Residence Hall and I am enjoying it
thoroughly. I also am a TA (Teaching Assistant) for CS 260. I serve as the
Parlamentarian for the Congress of the South Forty,
which is the Residence Hall Association here at Washington University. CS40, as
Congress is known, provides the residents of the South 40 (the residence hall area)
with a variety of programs, forums, and other activities. One activity that I've
been involved with non-stop since my freshman year is intramurals. The IM Office provides students, staff and
faculty with an amazing array of sports to participate in at different competetive
levels. They even have Inner Tube Water Polo! Finally, I will be graduating from the
School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with a degree in Computer Science on the
fateful day of May 19, 2000. While I will be glad to be done with classes for a
while, I will definitely miss Wash U a great deal.
- chris: the real world and
beyond
- As for
future plans, I really haven't mapped out much. I probably will go into web development
after graduation, so hopefully my experience as an RA will make me a little more marketable
than everyone else. Otherwise, I have only a few mini "goals" for myself:
- First, I want to make a movie. Whether I write the script, direct, produce or
whatever, I want to be involved with the making of a movie in some major way.
- Second, I want to coach a sport, preferably basketball. I think that it
is very possible that I may eventually go into teaching and so coaching
basketball wouldn't be way out of the question since I could get involved
with my school's athletics program. My love for sports runs deep, but
unfortunately my talent doesn't run quite as deep. While I will always
enjoy playing all sorts of sports I think that it would be an amazingly
fulfilling experience to one day coach.
- Finally, I want to go skydiving. I think this may be something I will
accomplish before I graduate, but we'll see. I think that diving will be
such an incredible rush that I'll never be able to equal and I eagerly look
forward to my first jump.
